Snow cover on the Cretaceous plateau

Snow cover plays an important role for groundwater recharge and thus the availability of groundwater in Lebanon. From November to May there are 2 - 4 meters of snow on the Cretaceous plateau (1800 - 3000 m asl). Up to 75 % of groundwater recharge originates from snow. Source: BGR
