One target of the subject area "Power Generation" is to define process gas compositions typical for the three most common technologies for CO2 separation and capture. This information will be used to design and perform experiments in COORAL’s other subject areas under "realistic" conditions.

In addition, technologies shall be identified that allow an (cost-) efficient reduction/removal of "problematic" substances from flue gases. The drying of process gases is of particular importance to prevent hydrate formation and corrosion during transport and injection.

Mechanisms and rates of steel corrosion by process fluids will be measured experimentally using modified autoclaves and a dedicated high temperature/high pressure corrosion chamber. Corrosion processes will be studied using electrochemical and other surface analytical techniques.

Finally, a material model will be set up from experimental data to simulate material performances/half-lives as a function of pressure, fluid composition and flow rate. This model will support the selection of materials to be used for e.g., compressors.
